Floating or Trunnion Design: Reduced bore ball valves can be either floating or trunnion mounted, similar to full bore ball valves. In a floating ball valve, the ball is free to move and is held in place by the pressure of the fluid or gas. In a trunnion-mounted ball valve, the ball is supported by trunnions or stems at the top and bottom, providing additional stability and allowing the valve to handle higher pressure and larger pipe sizes.

They find application in various industries, including oil and gas, petrochemicals, water treatment, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), and process industries.
